From the description of [*Diarthrognathus* (1958),](/publications/cranial-morphology-new-genus-and-species-ictidosauran) and the discovery of [*Heterodontosaurus* (1962)](/publications/lower-jaw-diarthrognathus-and-origin-mammalian-lower-jaw) to studies of the evolution of mammalian suckling (2018, in press), [respiration and endothermy](/publications/structure-nasal-region-non-mammalian-cynodonts-and-mammaliaforms-speculations) (2017), and other aspects of mammal evolution, Crompton and his colleagues have applied 30 years of studies in the functional morphology of extant mammals to understanding fossil morphology and evolution.
